The OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional
No one could have predicted the remarkable fate of this timepiece when OMEGA launched the first chronograph with a tachymeter scale in 1957. Designed for automobile racers and engineers, the watch needed a name that promised speed - the Speedmaster was born.
This legend’s fate took an abrupt turn in 1965, when NASA selected the watch for its manned space missions, notably the first lunar landing and all five subsequent lunar landings. The Speedmaster Moonwatch was born and entered the watch hall of fame for eternity.
In the more than 50 years of the Moonwatch, countless small adjustments and changes to the technology and aesthetics have been made, but the DNA has always remained the same and is still unmistakable to this day.
With the Speedmaster Moonwatch Profissional Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 42mm we land at today's current reference.
No other timepiece embodies the brand's risk-taking, pioneering spirit more than its poster child, the Speedmaster: the chronograph in its purest form. Equipped with the brand's latest technical achievements and many historical design elements, the watch offers anything a collector could wish for. The caliber 3861 is the improved version of its predecessor 1861 and is an officially certified Master Chronometer, which guarantees an accuracy of 0/+5 seconds per day. This movement also withstands magnetic fields of up to 15,000 Gauss and is equipped with OMEGA's Co-Axial escapement with a silicon balance spring. The improved power reserve of 50 hours offers additional comfort in everyday life. In addition to the central chronograph second hand, the watch has a small seconds counter, a 30-minute counter and a 12-hour counter.
Inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster models from the late 1960s, OMEGA has added some historically important design elements. Be it the slight step on the dial, the slightly deeper-set sub-dials, or the famous “Dot over 90” on the anodized aluminum bezel. The bracelet, which consists of five curved and alternately polished and brushed links per row, is also impressive in its design as well as in its wearing comfort. The vintage-style clasp rounds the whole thing off perfectly.
This version with a sapphire glass and a sapphire crystal glass back has the ideal characteristics of an everyday watch and offers a clear view of the marvelous movement. Besides the version with Hesalite glass, there is probably no modern Speedmaster that is more similar to the original Moonwatch.
Thanks to the timeless design and neutral color-scheme, this timepiece is a combination of elegant and casual style and is incredibly versatile. Whether on a stainless steel bracelet, a NATO bracelet, a fabric bracelet or a leather bracelet: This legend is always impressive, no matter how, no matter where.
