This Pilot's Watch Worldtimer not only displays two time zones, it even displays 24 time zones at the same time. The outer city ring is fixed, which means that the UTC is always up, the date line is always down. The local time for the relevant time zones can be read from the rotating second disc. The date continues to advance and reverse with local time. This highly efficient movement features an in-house self-winding caliber and a 42-hour power reserve. In view of rapidly advancing globalization, it is becoming increasingly important for pilots, frequent flyers and international business people to be able to keep track of things in different time zones. The Pilot’s Watch Worldtimer surmounts this challenge in particularly elegant fashion. The dial shows current local time. If the wearer passes through one or several different time zones, the time can be adjusted forwards or backwards in one-hour steps to show the new local time, even when crossing the International Date Line. The date simply moves in sync with the jumping hour hand. Once set correctly using the crown, the rotating black-and-white 24-hour ring enables the wearer to read off the time in all 24 zones, including UTC (Universal Time Coordinated). The 23 place names on the external city ring each represent a time zone. If local time is changed on the dial, the time shown by the 24-hour ring remains unaffected and the movement continues to run during the changeover. With its vertically arranged numerals, the triple date display is reminiscent of the altimeter found in an aircraft cockpit. The Pilot’s Watch Worldtimer is secured to the wrist by a black alligator leather strap with a folding clasp.

My favourite watch is the Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet. It is actually a men’s model, but I think the watch with 40 mm diameter looks breathtakingly beautiful on a woman, too. The classic complete calendar with Blancpain’s signature moon phase looks stunning with its simple elegance. Each function on the complete calendar can be adjusted individually using the practically invisible under-lug correctors.

Founded in 1735, Blancpain is the oldest watch brand in the world. The Villeret models have barely been aesthetically altered since the early days of Blancpain, yet they still look very contemporary. They have become a timeless classic that is a dependable accessory for generations.

I particularly like this ZENITH Defy Midnight 36 mm for the watch’s combination of features and unique selling points. You can easily pair the watch with different colourful straps yourself if you find the steel bracelet version too traditional. Try a suitably black strap on one side and a grey one on the other. Overall, it is excellent value for money given what the timepiece offers.
