As the surprise hit of the 2020 novelties presented in Dubai, HUBLOT presented the Spirit of Big Bang MECA-10 45mm, which is the barrel-shaped Spirit of Big Bang with the famous skeletonized hand-wound movement HUB1233 and a power reserve of 10 days. The Spirit of Big Bang MECA-10 Titanium gives the movement a convincing industrial contrast to the black bridges and metal elements of the case. The architecture of the movement has been fundamentally revised to fit the new case. The dial is fully skeletonized and the movement is visible from both sides.

 

 

Despite the uncompromising 45mm case, the watch is comfortable to wear thanks to the supple bracelet made of vulcanized natural rubber. The case and the lugs are curved and adapt to the contours of the wrist: absolutely suitable for everyday use.

My favourite watch is the Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet. It is actually a men’s model, but I think the watch with 40 mm diameter looks breathtakingly beautiful on a woman, too. The classic complete calendar with Blancpain’s signature moon phase looks stunning with its simple elegance. Each function on the complete calendar can be adjusted individually using the practically invisible under-lug correctors.

Founded in 1735, Blancpain is the oldest watch brand in the world. The Villeret models have barely been aesthetically altered since the early days of Blancpain, yet they still look very contemporary. They have become a timeless classic that is a dependable accessory for generations.

I particularly like this ZENITH Defy Midnight 36 mm for the watch’s combination of features and unique selling points. You can easily pair the watch with different colourful straps yourself if you find the steel bracelet version too traditional. Try a suitably black strap on one side and a grey one on the other. Overall, it is excellent value for money given what the timepiece offers.
