The story: performance and style for all your water sports activities. In the 1960s, the new sport of scuba diving became all the rage. For divers, timing was everything, and Breitling set out to develop the most straightforward diving watch possible by removing any feature that was not designed to provide life-saving functions underwater. This pared-down watch was named the Slow Motion. What remained were clean lines, chunky luminescent hands, square indexes and a high-contrast dial ring to guarantee maximum legibility. It was definitely practical, but what people really loved was its look. The new Superocean captures the Slow Motion’s acclaimed design elements and enhances them with modern features, such as a ceramic inlayed bezel and brightly coloured dials. Broad hands and indexes in luminescent Super-LumiNova® ensure easy readability underwater. The watch is water resistant to 300 m (1,000 ft), as well as being shock resistant, sand and salt water resistant. The bronze version uses a special alloy that has excellent corrosion resistance, yet will still develop a subtle patina over time, making the watch even more unique. The two strap options (rubber and metal bracelet) have a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustments of up to 15 mm, making it easy to wear the watch over rash guards and wetsuits. Its scratch-proof ceramic inlayed bezel will never wear or fade. For safety, the bezel is unidirectional on most sizes and bidirectional with a patented locking mechanism on the 46 mm model. Best of all, this is no longer just a dive watch – surf with it, swim with it, hit the beach bar with it and then wear it out to dinner. The Superocean strikes the perfect balance between the nostalgia of its heritage and a fresh, new look.
