The newly launched Defy Extreme in sandblasted dark titanium with gold details is one of 2021’s showstoppers. The upgraded El Primero 21 movement with its 50 Hz mechanical chronograph ensures incredible accuracy down to 1/100th of a second, which is reason enough to buy the watch. This level of precision is achieved by two independent escapements. Now this extraordinary movement is being paired with a futuristic design and a very lightweight titanium case. In addition, the straps are now easy to change. A titanium bracelet as well as a rubber strap and a Velcro strap are included with this model. If you like futuristic design and extraordinary watchmaking, but prefer a more discreet brand, this is the watch for you.

The Defy collection sets its sights high. It is meant to be an experiment in watchmaking innovation and thus shape the future of Swiss watchmaking. The collection already includes extraordinary complications, such as double tourbillons, gyroscope systems and 50 Hz high-frequency chronographs, so a futuristic design with innovative materials and skeletonisation was chosen to keep up with this high standard. With this watch, ZENITH is building on its history and remaining true to its DNA.   ZENITH has turned heads throughout its history due to its major technological innovations. Think of the silicon oscillator, which completely replaced and revolutionised the traditional, centuries-old balance. Or the gyroscopic escapement, which compensates for Earth’s gravity better than any tourbillon. Throughout ZENITH’s history, it has always surpassed its competitors on the technical front and solved historically important watchmaking problems. This includes the first automatic chronograph calibre El Primero from 1969, an improved version of which has been incorporated into the Defy collection.

My favourite watch is the Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet. It is actually a men’s model, but I think the watch with 40 mm diameter looks breathtakingly beautiful on a woman, too. The classic complete calendar with Blancpain’s signature moon phase looks stunning with its simple elegance. Each function on the complete calendar can be adjusted individually using the practically invisible under-lug correctors.

Founded in 1735, Blancpain is the oldest watch brand in the world. The Villeret models have barely been aesthetically altered since the early days of Blancpain, yet they still look very contemporary. They have become a timeless classic that is a dependable accessory for generations.
